“If a doctor, lawyer, or architect had 25 people in his or her office at one time, all of whom had different needs, and some of whom didn't want to be there and were causing trouble, and the doctor, lawyer, or architect, without assistance, had to treat them all with professional excellence for nine months, then he or she might have some conception of the classroom teacher's job.”
Dear Loggerhead Families-
I came across this quote earlier in the week and it seemed appropriate to share during this month in which we will celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week. This will most likely bring a knowing smile to those who have taught before, and hopefully a better level of understanding for those who have not. Teaching is an incredibly challenging profession in which the stakes and accountability are rising each year.
This past week I was elated to watch as seven of Laurel Hill’s teachers were recognized for excellence in our field. Charleston County School District honored teachers in grades 2nd-8th for significant growth in student achievement as measured by last year’s MAP scores. This selection was not only based on the growth of all students in a teacher’s classroom, but it also compared our students to other students from high performing schools around the country.
To better articulate how impressive this recognition is, consider the following:
• 17% of CCSD’s eligible teachers were recognized
• 54% of Laurel Hill’s eligible teachers were recognized
• 100% of Laurel Hill’s eligible teachers outperformed peers from around the country
My point is simply that we are very fortunate to have an amazing faculty at Laurel Hill. We have extremely high expectations for our teachers, and our faculty is living up to these goals for constant improvement and results-driven success. Their expertise and dedication to teaching are second to none and I could not be happier to work with this group of professional educators. Laurel Hill will celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week from March 22nd-26th. I ask that you join me in thanking your child’s teacher for all that he or she does on a daily basis for our students as it is certainly well-deserved.
Thank you for your continued support of our school!
