Frances Amburn 1-J

Welcome to a great, high energy year, where learning never stops!  Please allow your child to tell you all about rocks, the moon and the Earth, how to grow plants, and how to balance and move faster!  Let your child become the expert on holiday customs, history, and math facts.  Allow them to read, read, read, and fill you in on their favorite books and the characters in their own writings!  Most importantly, give them your time when they come home to tell you about their fantastic first grade life!

The parents in 1-J have always been great!  You have a huge job because first grade is one of your child’s most important grades!  They learn a ton every day! I am so excited to be working with you and your child this year!  I grew up in Northern Virginia, but I have lived in Mt. Pleasant for since 1984.  I have taught in North Carolina and South Carolina.  I have taught kindergarten through graduate school.  I have over 25 years of experience, but teaching first grade at Laurel Hill is my absolute favorite!

When my daughter was three I took off to be with her.  When she entered kindergarten at Laurel Hill in 2005 I started volunteering and substituting at Laurel Hill.  I soon found out how much I loved the little children and missed teaching.   First graders are always busy and I love it!

I am blessed to be with you and your family this year.  I would love it if you could volunteer to come in for reading or math groups, help with science experiments, social studies projects, or chaperone field trips.  You may want to be a “guest reader”.  You can always volunteer to help with our students’ writing anthologies!  Even if you don’t have time to volunteer, stop in and see what we are up to!  I look forward to an outstanding, memorial year for your child!
